Honorable Patron Mr. HAN Qide

The Association is pleased to announce that Dr. HAN Qide has kindly accepted our invitation to be the Honorable Patron of the Hong Kong Medical Association Charitable Foundation. Graduated from the Shanghai Medical College Fudan University, Dr. HAN has been engaged in the primary care of the underdeveloped areas for many years. Therefore, he fully understands and particularly cares for rural health. He has also worked for the Third Hospital of Peking University Health Science Center for a long period of time. At present, he still holds an important post in the Centre. Dr. HAN is currently the Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the Central Government. He is closely related to the medical profession and deeply concerned about the medical problems in the mainland. He has put forth a number of proposals for the reform of the health care delivery system there. Dr. HAN visited the HKMA in 2004 and held a lunch meeting with our Council members. Since then, he has had a number of exchange activities with the local medical institutions, and shown much interest in the development of the medical system in Hong Kong and its related problems. Through this honorable position, we hope to cultivate a stronger bond between the Hong Kong doctors, professionals and the public with their counterparts in the mainland. Together, we can make Hong Kong, the mainland and the world a healthier and more harmonious place to live.
